I am truly amazed at how wonderful vintage prints are... I am addicted. Whenever, a print pops up, I find myself designing a garment around it! Here are some delightful vintage prints, most from my personal fabric hoarding collection:)

Portrait of the Week - Sisters
I found this picture a few years ago. I'm thinking by the garments and hairstyles that it most likely dates to the late 1880's or 1890's.
They look like sisters, probably close in age. I have been calling the one on the left Martha and the other Eunice. I feel like they were just two peas in a pod. So much so, they probably held each other's hand mirrors after the ritual of pinning up their hair. I'm sure Martha learned the harmony to all of Eunice's piano concertos, so the piece would sound just as it was written. Eunice loved hot blueberry pie and Martha liked ham and eggs.
This picture was taken in Sandwich, Illinois.

Taste of Tumblr
I recently opened a Tumblr blog full of vintage photos and illustrations! Needless to say, I am addicted. I am addicted not only, to the eventual day when all of my beloved vintage photos will be shown off all in one spot and shared with anyone who loves vintage photos as much as I do, but looking through everyone else's vintage photo treasures too!
Here are just a few of the beauties you will find within my blog...

Happy Belated Birthday, Lillian Gish
I don't really remember how I discovered Miss Lillian, but I was rather young and in one of my nerdy moments of becoming obsessed with something way older than even my grandparents. I remember finding a book in my library that was about her and from that moment on she has been one of my most beloved Silent Film stars and heroines. I have read several books about her, got teary eyed during most of her films and have always thought of her first when I think of silent films.
Her birthday was on the 14th of October, but still completely worthy of mention. She was born in 1893 and lived to be 99.
Some of her early silent films are:
Broken Blossoms, True Heart Susie, The White Sister and D.W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation
So, Happy Birthday dear Lillian.

You've Been So Silent, Jens
Until recent months that is... I just found out that Jens Lekman has just released a new single! For those not familiar with Jens's music, it is the most heart-wrenchingly-witty and just plain admirable music you may ever come across. It's kind of like once you have heard it, you are indeed changed in intellect and are most likely a loyal fan. You can download the new song here: The End of the World is Bigger Than Love

Vintage Portrait of the Week - Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Brimble
I have no idea what this nice looking couples's name is, but I feel like they look like a Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Brimble. What I do know is, that Mrs. Brimble's glasses are wonderful and I'm sure they had a subscription to the "Saturday Evening Post". Mr. Brimble took great pride in his Model-T Ford.
They grew old together in Newton, Kansas and had their lovely yearly portrait at Rickert's photo studio.
Oh, and Mrs. Brimble had the best Mincemeat Pie this side of the Mississippi.

"Our Hearts Were Beating Like Hummingbirds That Night..."
I may be "old fashioned" about a lot of things, but music is not really one of them. Don't get me wrong, my heart melts at the sound of a doo-wop beat and a tiny tear forms in the corner of my eye when I hear a crooning Buddy Holly, but I really love and admire the music that is coming from the Indie scene these days. The band the love language is one of my new favorite musical discoveries of 2010. I have been listening almost non-stop to their 2010 album "Libraries". Every single song is simply perfect. They all have an infectious melody, inspiring organic lyrics and that feeling of really good times hanging out on that fading '70s plaid couch in your best friend's basement while listening to something that you have never heard before, but leave that night with the wanting to hear it again and again.
Honestly, I don't think this album could get tiresome.
Please give them a listen :)

Vintage Portrait of the Week - "Very Sincerely Yours, Eloise"
I want to start doing a series of vintage portraits from my own photo collection every Monday! I have a penchant for finding vintage photos and just love seeing posts about them.
This one looks like a 40's Senior photo or perhaps a girlfriend or Fiancee of a WWII soldier. She looks like a sweetheart with her perfect hair and dainty heart shaped locket (from him perhaps)?
The embossing at the right corner states - Morganti Denver.

Whoopee!!
Yes, it is exciting friends, overly ashtonishing in fact, let's hear it for some whoopee!!
I recently found this little 1920's or 1930's (or it may have found me) autograph book at local antique mall. I truly gasped a little whimsical sigh when I eyed it, to be honest I may have even wanted to let out a dainty "whoopee"! Especially when I flipped through and found the following:

The hat and glasses alone are just a gag! I love it!
Vintage humor for sure
The little girl in the adorable beret reminds me of Addy Pray from the movie "Paper Moon"!
Well, that's all for now folks!

Busy Bee!! Sewing Projects for this Fall
I think some 40's style jumpers and 3/4 sleeve dresses are a must have this fall. I am looking forward to these (especially the jumpers) because I have some lovely vintage plaids lying around that need a place in somebody's wardrobe! I have not sewn very much with plaid so it will be good to learn the basics of PLAID...
40's Jumper and blouse pattern from Du Barry
Another jumper and blouse pattern from Simplicity!
A wonderful Princess seam dress pattern from Hollywood patterns (I LOVE THESE PATTERNS)
I shall add some project photos as I go along. Happy Sewing!
